TAYLOR MILL ELEMENTARY PTA
2015-2016 READY TO ROAR!
We Welcome PARENTS, GRANDPARENTS, AND FRIENDS INTO OUR CLASSROOMS FOR HELP WITH SPECIAL PROJECTS. INTERESTED?
Dear Taylor Mill Families,
First and foremost, let me say that we welcome visitors and volunteers with open arms at our school! As an extension of that invitation we have allowed parents/visitors to eat lunch with students in our cafeteria. However, throughout the years we have encountered many issues of concern during lunch visits that I feel must be addressed for the safety and well-being of all students.
Please note the following components of our SBDM Policy (Policy #14 Wellness):
Parents are encouraged to consider healthy choices and children’s wellness when packing student lunches or when bringing in food to share with their child during their lunch period at school. Nutritional information provided through the District Food Service Department shall be distributed to parents upon request. This information is also available on the district website.
Teachers are encouraged to utilize rewards other than food and/or candy to reinforce positive student behavior and academic achievement.
In order to ensure the safety of our students, it is permissible to only bring prepackaged, store-bought, healthy snacks to school to celebrate events such as birthdays, holidays and other special occasions.
Please note that outside purchases of food/drink for your child’s lunch are acceptable. However, purchases or bringing in lunch for other students or your child’s friends are not permitted. Food/drink may not be shared with other students or your child’s friends during lunch visits. Tables are reserved for lunch visitors and their child only. Friends and other students are not permitted to sit at the visitors’ lunch table (only the visitor and their own child may share this quality time). This will help to insure our students with food allergies are safe and free from any unknown possible ingredient that could be brought in to school. Plus, it helps to alleviate any hurt feelings and unnecessary jealousy of our students.
We highly encourage you to refrain from bringing in outside fast food for your child’s lunch and eat a school lunch instead. Our school lunches provide healthy, nutritional choices and meet the federal/state regulations. In case you haven’t noticed the changes to school lunches this year let me be the first to tell you they are very tasty! Adult lunches may be purchases in our café for $3.25.
Many schools do not allow lunches from fast food restaurants to be brought in for school lunch. With this being said, I totally understand the occasional lunch visit with your child, but I am asking that you limit the visits to those of special significance and celebrations. Children need lunch time to socialize with classmates, learn self help skills, practice manners and learn to follow directions/expectations independently.
As always, please feel free to contact me with concerns as I am working to do what is best for all students and to keep Taylor Mill a safe place for our children. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and support.
A Note From Principal Dailey
Below you will find helpful Information about our School and District Lunch policies. Please read carefully and let us know if you have any questions.
What is an alternative lunch? Alternative lunch consist of a sandwich and a milk.
When will my student get an alternative lunch? After he or she charges lunch 3 times.
After students have three lunch charges a letter is sent out to the parents from the Student Nutrition Department. Our Café Manager, Connie Hutson follows up with a phone call before an alternative meal takes place. The school office and/or administrators do not have access to lunch accounts. You will need to contact the café manager on her direct line @356-9073 ext.6680 between 7:00am and 2:00pm Monday through Friday to get information about your child’s lunch account/charges. Leave a message if she is unavailable and she will return your call within 24 hours.
Money sent in for lunch will allow your child to buy a regular lunch for that day only. Students will receive an alternate lunch again the next day if any charges remain on the account. After the account is paid in full the student may purchase regular lunches again. Remember…breakfast is $1.40 and lunch is $2.00.
Parents may also use our online Meal Pay System. Go to the www.kenton.kyschools.us and click on the parent link at the top of the page. Then scroll down to the Meal Pay tab to sign up and pay your child’s account on line. You will need your child’s student I.D. number/lunch number to sign up. Please know that it may take up to 24 to 48 hours for a payment to process and show as PAID.
I have a job. Can my child qualify for Free and/or Reduced Lunch?
Yes, Free and Reduced Lunch is based on income, household numbers and other factors.
Applications for Free and Reduced Lunches are available. Please contact Connie Hutson if you would like an application or have any questions @356-9073 ext.6680 between 7:00am and 2:00pm Monday through Friday. Only the Café Manager has access to lunch accounts.
If you are not sure if you qualify or if you need help completing the application contact our Family Resource Coordinator, Mandy Munich here at Taylor Mill. Many people qualify for assistance and do not even realize it. So it is best to apply and see if you are accepted. Even if you have a job you may qualify. Many times adoption, foster children or family members raising other family member’s children can qualify for assistance. Our school can receive academic support for all of our students if we have a certain percentage of families who qualify. So as you can see we need your help in turning in forms if there is even a possibility your family may qualify.
We are asking that all applications be turned in my September 18th.
Free and Reduced Lunch is a confidential matter for all students/families. If at any time during the school year your income or circumstances change you are eligible to apply.
